Why this product exists

Almost everything we make is about producing disinfectant rather than buying it. HOCl-AS200 is the deliberate exception, and the reason is regulatory rather than chemical.

In the United States, a product sold with claims to kill specific pathogens is a pesticide and must be registered with the EPA. That registration is what permits the claim — it is a statement about the label, not a measure of the chemistry’s power. When a hospital protocol, a school district policy, an insurer or a state inspector specifies an EPA-registered disinfectant, the generated solution is not the right answer to that particular question. HOCl-AS200 is.

How most facilities use both

Generated HOCl for the volume work — daily surface sanitation, wash water, CIP, fogging, drains. HOCl-AS200 for the specific applications where a registered disinfectant claim must be documented.

Organisms on the label

Twenty-one organisms — eight bacteria and thirteen viruses — each at a five-minute contact time on precleaned hard, non-porous surfaces: SARS-CoV-2, HIV-1, duck hepatitis B virus (surrogate for human hepatitis B), influenza A (H1N1), avian influenza A (H3N2), respiratory syncytial virus, norovirus (feline calicivirus), murine norovirus, bovine viral diarrhea virus, rhinovirus type 14, adenovirus type 5, herpes simplex types 1 and 2, MRSA, Listeria monocytogenes, Salmonella enterica, Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Streptococcus pyogenes and Enterococcus faecium.

The label also carries an emerging viral pathogen claim covering enveloped, large non-enveloped and small non-enveloped viruses, by following the directions for feline calicivirus (strain F9) and rhinovirus type 14. If the product is not used immediately after production, test it with a chlorine test kit first: do not use below 149 ppm of available chlorine.

Directions for use

  1. Preclean the surface. Visible soil consumes the active ingredient before it reaches anything living.
  2. Apply from 6–8 inches. Spray so the surface is thoroughly and visibly wet.
  3. Keep it wet for five minutes. The contact time is the claim.
  4. Allow to air dry. No rinse step is specified for the registered use sites.

Not a sterilant

HOCl-AS200 is not for terminal sterilization of instruments that contact sterile body areas. Always read and follow the label supplied with the product.
