Safety Data Sheets

Safety data sheets for the hypochlorous acid EcoloxTech supplies — the EPA-registered HOCl-AS200, the solution a system produces on site, and the cosmetic grade and hydrogel — written to the sixteen-section OSHA Hazard Communication Standard format.

Safety data sheets for the hypochlorous acid EcoloxTech supplies — the bottled, EPA-registered HOCl-AS200, the solution an EcoloxTech system produces on site, and the cosmetic grade and hydrogel supplied for white-label filling. Each one is written to the sixteen-section format set out in OSHA’s Hazard Communication Standard, 29 CFR 1910.1200 Appendix D, and carries its revision number and date on every page.

What each sheet covers

All sixteen sections, in the order and wording the standard requires: identification and emergency contact; hazard classification with label elements; composition with CAS numbers; first-aid, fire-fighting and spill measures; handling and storage; exposure controls with the occupational limits that apply; the full physical and chemical property set; stability and reactivity; toxicological endpoints with carcinogen listing status; and ecological, disposal, transport and regulatory information.

One point worth reading before anything else: contact with acid liberates chlorine gas. Never mix hypochlorous acid solution with acidic cleaners, descalers or toilet cleaners, and never with ammonia-based products. All five sheets set this out in Sections 2, 7 and 10; the cosmetic sheet goes further and says do not mix it with anything at all.

The AS200 sheet is the one for a registered pesticide. HOCl-AS200 is registered with the EPA under FIFRA, so its Section 15 carries the registration and establishment numbers, the signal word that appears on the container label and the label’s precautionary statements — none of which apply to the generated solution. The EPA-approved label supplied with the product governs how it may lawfully be used, and the safety data sheet does not replace it.

The cosmetic-grade sheet sits under a different regime. It covers a cosmetic as defined by the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act, so its Section 15 deals with MoCRA registration, listing and safety substantiation rather than with FIFRA. It is not an EPA-registered product and no antimicrobial or therapeutic claim may be made for it.

The hydrogel is that same cosmetic regime in a different form. It is the ultra pure hypochlorous acid thickened with magnesium silicate, so its sheet carries occupational exposure limits for a mineral particulate that the liquid sheets have no need of, and it states plainly that the human repeat insult patch test held on the solution does not extend to the gel. It also separates magnesium silicate from talc, which share a common name but are different substances with different carcinogenicity evaluations.

Keeping them current

Keep the current revision in your compliance file and replace it whenever a new one is issued — the revision number and date are in the masthead and the footer of every page. For what else belongs in an HOCl safety file, read HOCl safety and SDS and staying compliant with HOCl.

Other downloads

The downloads page also carries the HOCl Compliance Pack — ten pages of checklists, SOP and log templates, and label and regulatory quick references — and the white papers. For product labels or specification sheets, contact us and we will send them.
