Why the company exists
Morten Larsen was hospitalised by food poisoning. What struck him afterwards was not the illness but the explanation: the sanitation had been done, the products had been bought, the schedule had been followed on paper. The failure was somewhere in the gap between the protocol as written and the protocol as executed — a bucket mixed by eye, a drum that ran out, a solution that had been sitting in the sun.
The conclusion he drew was that the problem was not which chemical, but the dependence on a supply chain and on human dilution. If the disinfectant were manufactured on site, at a machine-set concentration, at the moment of use, most of the failure modes would simply not exist.
That is what EcoloxTech builds.
The first large deployment
Norwegian Cruise Lines was the reference account that proved the argument at scale. Ships are the hardest version of the problem: a closed population, a pathogen — norovirus — that spreads explosively, chemical stores that consume weight and volume on a vessel where both are constrained, and no possibility of an emergency delivery mid-ocean.
The fleet went from six to nine outbreaks a year to zero. Not because hypochlorous acid is magic, but because the two failure points had been removed: you cannot run out of something you manufacture, and you cannot mis-dilute something a machine produces at a set concentration.
What makes us different
- We manufacture. The cells, the control systems and the specification are ours. When something needs to change for your installation, there is nobody upstream to ask.
- We hold patents on the generation technology, which is why our systems run near-neutral single-cell rather than the membrane architecture most of the market resells.
- We publish the evidence. The research hub is the largest consolidated collection of peer-reviewed HOCl literature in the industry, and it includes work that qualifies our claims as well as work that supports them.
- We say what the chemistry does not do. HOCl is not a cleaner, it is not instant against spores, and generated solution is not a registered disinfectant. Suppliers who omit those facts are selling rather than explaining.
- We also make the registered product. HOCl-AS200, EPA Reg. No. 101112-1, for the claims that require a label.
- We manufacture for other brands. Our white-label programme produces cosmetic and pharmaceutical-grade ultra-pure HOCl under our customers’ names.
